Melissa Volker was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, to an American mother and a South African father. She is a reader, writer, blogger, recycler, and an anxious stand up paddler. While taking a break from a career in beauty therapy, she studied creative writing. She now writes romantic environmental fiction, blogs about writing and surfing, and occasionally writes for surf websites. She lives in Cape Town, on the warmer, False Bay side, where the white sharks are numerous. When not writing, she surfs her stand up paddle board and does her best to avoid the sharks. When the writing is done and the wind is onshore, she works as a beauty and massage therapist in her studio. She shares her home with a patient husband, two smart daughters and a very naughty Burmilla cat.
